A Very Rare Standing Clock with Planisphere
with planisphere, signed by the famous 18th-century clockmaker Dames Starre from Hoorn, dated ca. 1755. A rare and complex technique used to read the position of the starry sky based on time and date. Featuring very finely engraved and silver-plated discs, depicting, among other things, the zodiac. It is an 8-day movement equipped with a date and alarm mechanism. Also noteworthy are the original paintings on the dial, which include an allegory of cupids with compasses and globes. The entire piece is set in a very fine walnut-veneered case featuring extremely subtle inlay work. With mechanism for a central seconds hand, hand missing. Similar rare clocks can be found in museum collections such as those of the Boerhaave Museum and Sonnenborgh, height 278 cm.
